Council hires manager for interim work

FAIRFIELD -- A retired Pittsfield town manager will fill in as the Fairfield town manager until councilors hire a replacement for Paul Blanchette, who died unexpectedly on Saturday.

The Town Council held a special meeting Monday morning to hire Dwight Dogherty, who will begin working today.

Kalish, Ortiz help Sox rough up Rays

BOSTON (AP) — Ryan Kalish hit a grand slam, David Ortiz had a two-run shot and Jon Lester pitched six solid innings to lead the Boston Red Sox over Tampa Bay 12-5 Monday night, preventing the Rays from climbing closer in the AL East race.

Two big crowd events took place last Saturday.

One was Glenn Beck’s “Restore Honor” rally in front of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, and the other was the American Folk Festival in Bangor.

There were hundreds of thousands in Washington and tens of thousands in Bangor.
