Police charge Colby students

WATERVILLE - Police late Saturday summoned more than four dozen Colby College students and charged them with illegal consumption of alcohol during a party at 16 Winter Street.

Another two people who were not at the party were, in two separate incidents,  taken to a local hospital later in the evening after police received calls that they needed  medical attention on the Colby campus, according to police Chief Joseph Massey. One was a Colby student and one was visiting someone on campus; both were summoned for illegal consumption, he said.

Three students who rent the Winter Street apartment where the party was held were arrested and charged with providing a place for minors to consume, he said.

Those arrested and summoned are scheduled to appear in Waterville District Court at 1 p.m. Dec. 6, he said.

Colby Vice President Sally Baker said officials will gather all the names of the students charged and will follow up  with each one.

"All will be subject to discipline on campus," she said.
