CHARLESTON, S. C. — Darren E. Hartford has been selected for promotion to the rank of brigadier general in the Air Force. Hartford is currently serving as Wing Commander with 437 Airlift Wing, Joint Base Charleston, S.C. He has served in the military for 24 years.
Hartford is the son of Priscilla S. and David E. Hartford of Smithfield.

He is a 1985 graduate of Skowhegan Area High School and earned a bachelor of science in 1989 from United States Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, Colo.
