FAIRFIELD — Climate adaptation challenges and opportunities for energy resilience, sponsored by the Mid-Maine Climate Adaptation Working Group, will be held at Kennebec Valley Council of Governments, according to a press release. A public briefing on renewable technologies and energy conservation for businesses and homeowners will be held in Fairfield, on Earth Day, April 22.

Following a brief overview of current and anticipated climate changes in mid-Maine, expert panelists will highlight how solar technologies, heat pumps, and energy efficiency generate and save energy in area businesses and homes.

Consulting engineer and energy auditor Clough Toppan, of Vassalboro, will describe how he substantially reduced the use of Number 2 fuel oil through the application of energy audit and conservation measures in an older home in Winslow.

Solar financing expert Sam LaVallee, ReVision Energy, will describe how customized installations are reducing energy costs for businesses and home owners in Maine and New England.

Solar and renewable energy expert and engineer Vaughan Woodruff, owner of Insource Renewables, Pittsfield, will address the increasing use of heat pumps in the area to generate both heat and air conditioning.

Tim Downing, President, Duratherm Window Corporation, Vassalboro, will describe how he retrofitted his 50-plus-year-old company to achieve energy efficiency and lower energy costs using a variety of measures.

Presentations will be followed by a question and answer session with the panelists.

The Mid-Maine Climate Adaptation Working Group is a collaboration between the Sustain Mid-Maine Coalition, based in Waterville, and the Running Start Institute, based in Bath.
