UNITY — Sebasticook Regional Land Trust has planned an evening walk for 5 p.m. Saturday, April 26.

The organization invites all ages on this guided visit to vernal pools. These concentrated pools of life are where frogs, salamanders and more gather for courtship, attracting even more critters looking for a good meal. If Mother Nature cooperates, participants will see and hear the residents of a local vernal pool, as well as woodcock and other spring birds. The event is free and open to the public.

Guides will be Colby College biologist and amphibian expert Cathy Bevier and ornithologist Tom Aversa. There will be time to explore the pool and learn about the critters found there. Information will also be available about how participants can explore and document pools in their own neighborhoods.

Participants should gather at the Trust office, 93 Main St. for a short carpool to the site. Waterproof boots are recommended. To improve wildlife viewing, dogs should remain at home.
