CLINTON -- The 57th annual Clinton Lions Club Agricultural Fair will open at 3 p.m. Sept. 9. The fair will be furnished by Cushing Amusements of Wilmington, Mass. They will feature a $15 ride bracelet on Thursday and Sunday.
In addition to the many exhibits, sales booths and eateries, Thursday will feature a mule, donkey and mini-horse show at 3 p.m., martial arts demonstration at 6:30 p.m., the Maine Dairy Princess and Jr. Princess contest finals at 7p.m.
Two bands, Emerald Sky and Fallen Angel, will perform at 7:30 p.m. in Thibodeau mechanical arena.
The 11th annual Woodsman Day events open Friday at 11 a.m. The all-day event brings in top woodmen from New England and Canada. The Farmer's Club will present several events including a draft horse show at noon, twitch, scoot and obstacle events at 3:30 p.m. and a draft horse pull at 7 p.m. Street class pick-up pulling will begin at 7 p.m. Friday. Friday is also Senior Citizen's Day. Reduced gate admission and dinner meals will be in effect. Special entertainment will feature Bob Elston and the Road Rangers with 3 shows, at 3, 6:30 and 8:30 p.m. A special dedication of a memorial garden in memory of deceased Clinton Lions members will be held at 9 p.m. The evening is topped out with fireworks by the Central Maine Pyrotechnics Co. of Hallowell.
Saturday starts with a public breakfast in the Lions Diner from 6:30 to 9a.m. 4-H working steers, youth Class Ox pulling, Open Steer Show, Ox pulling and an Ox Scoot contest will be featured throughout the day. The annual street parade will be held in downtown Clinton at 10:00 am. This will feature the Lawrence High School Marching Band, the Trott Family Clowns, several units of the Kora Temple Shrine, the Hurdy Gurdy man, many local floats, antique cars and much more.
Another change for 2010 will be all-day tractor and truck pulling, alternating classes from noon into the evening. The show tent will feature performances by the R. B. Hall Band, Country Sidekicks line-dance demonstrations, Tickles the Clown, and Debbie Myers and her Red-neck Band starting at 7 p.m.
Sunday opens with a public breakfast at 6:30 a.m. An all-trophy, all-game horse show at 9 a.m. and a 10 a.m. church service, arranged by Methodist minister Rev. Katherine Russo, featuring the Campbell family singing their Christian songs. Pulling events of the day will include lawn and garden and mini-tractors and horse pulling throughout the day. The Great Stephan, magician, will perform at 1 p.m. followed by the Baby Show at 2 p.m. Concluding the day will be a dance review by Maureen's Young Americans.
Throughout the fair will be a crafts tent featuring Maine crafters selling their wares. Also the Benton Grange will operate the Bingo tent and the Lions Club their Krazy Ball game. Two exhibition halls feature arts and crafts, vegetables, 4-H, Grange and Extension exhibits. The Clinton History House will feature all things of Clinton past, including a recently discovered 16-foot national mural painted by Clinton's famed artist Viva Chamberlain.
