SOUTH CHINA — Jobs for Maine Grads students will host a motivational speakers/rap artist Darius Weems, who has Duchenne’s Muscular Dystrophy, at 6 tonight at Erskine Academy in South China. The purpose of the event is to educate and motivate young people to get involved in the cause to find a cure.

Darius’ mission to draw attention to the disease, as long he is able, is the focus of an award-winning documentary, Darius Goes West (dariusgoeswest.org/).

JMG students teamed up with the Muscular Dystrophy Association of Maine to raise money for DMD and earned the opportunity to host “Big Daddy Weems” in person for a Q&A on the film — followed by a mini-concert.

Darius was recently signed to New South Entertainment as an inspirational rap artist. Students will also get a chance to try their hand at rapping with Darius.

JMG will donate proceeds from ticket sales to the MDA of Maine and Charley’s Fund.
