Morning Sentinel Staff

PITTSFIELD -- The Pittsfield Historical Society and the town are in need of funds to preserve the downtown Pittsfield Train Station, built in 1880.

A Historic Preservation Grant opportunity is available to preserve the building if awarded. The society and town have made a commitment of $23,370 toward the project, leaving a fundraising goal of $20,000.

The application deadline for the grant is in March, so donations are needed as soon as possible.

To donate, make checks payable to Town of Pittsfield c/o Save our Historic Depot Campaign, and mail to 112 Somerset Ave., Pittsfield, ME 04967; or drop off a donation at the Town Office.
