BELGRADE -- The Friends of the Belgrade Public Library fifth annual Golf Tournament, this year amed the Ed Salmon Memorial Golf Tournament after a library supporter and a previous member of the Belgrade Public Library Board of Trustees. The tournament was held July 11 at the Belgrade Lakes Golf Course, with a noon tee off and a scramble format. The tournament was followed by a cocktail/buffet reception where awards and prizes were given out by MC Tom Alter of the PGA Tour followed by a live and silent auction with Buzz Bridges as the auctioneer.
The award for the longest drive for a man was won by Roger Williams, of Charlie's Family Dealership team; the award for the longest drive by a woman was won by Debbie Knox, of Skowhegan Savings Bank.
The closest to the pin by a man was won by Michael Barrett, chair of the Belgrade Public Library Trustee Board; and the closest to the pin by a woman was won by Meghan Loubier, of Skowhegan Savings Bank.
The two teams with the lowest score were Charlie Shuman's team from Charlie's Family Dealership with players Shuman, Steve Shuman, Mike Roddy and Roger Williams. The other team was Pat Murphy's team with players Murphy, John Roots, Fred Webber and John Webber.
There were joke gifts given to the two teams with the most lost golf balls, the most dangerous hits and the most golf balls hit into the Water. Frank Alter won the putting contest, which was held during and after the tournament.
All proceeds will be used to maintain the new library building and grounds on Depot Road.Tweet
