PITTSFIELD — Maine Central Institute has announced its top students from the class of 2013. The top ranking is based solely on grade-point average.

Brittany Seekins, valedictorian, has been on the honor roll all four years at MCI and is a member of the National Honor Society. She managed the boys’ soccer team for four years and also participated on the Ballroom Dance Team and the track team. In addition, Seekins was a member of the band, chorus, Key Club, Student Council, Calligraphy Club, Cooking Club and Future Problem Solvers. Seekins is the daughter of Daren and Kristie Seekins, of Pittsfield.

Salutatorian Morgan Thies has been a four-year member of the jazz band, chamber choir and Key Club, and a three-year member of vocal jazz, Drama Team and the Student Council. She has been on the honor roll all four years at MCI and is a member of the National Honor Society. She was on the Ballroom Dance Team, played soccer and tennis for two years, and managed the girls’ basketball team for a year. Thies is the daughter of David Thies and Cheryl Thies, of Pittsfield.

Ka Wing “Kym” Man has been a member of the Key Club her entire time at MCI, serving as president her senior year. She was a member of the Tennis and Chess Club for two years and participated in track. Man was also involved with the Math Team and the Cultural Diversity Club and was a dormitory prefect. Man is the daughter of Ying Keung Man and Lai Fan Lau, of Hong Kong, China.

Carolyn Newhouse tied Ka Wing “Kym” Man for third place ranking. She has been a member of the field hockey team all four years at MCI, becoming captain her senior year. Newhouse has also been on the honor roll all four years and was a four-year member of the jazz and concert bands. In addition, Newhouse was a member of both the softball and the Future Problem Solvers teams for three years, was a Manson Essay finalist and was a member of the National Honor Society, Jazz Combo I and Key Club. Newhouse is the daughter of Brent and Donna Newhouse, of Pittsfield.

Jordyn Cram has participated in the concert and jazz bands for four years, earning entrance into the Tri-M Music Society her junior year and becoming a jazz band officer her senior year. She has participated in dance classes at Top Hat Dance Studio in Skowhegan all four years at MCI and was a member of Top Hat’s dance team her junior year. Cram was also a Manson Essay finalist and a member of the National Honor Society, the Drama Team and the field hockey team. Cram is the daughter of Harry and Jennifer Cram, of Pittsfield.

Laura Horowitz tied Jordyn Cram for fifth place ranking. She has been a member of the Key Club, Friends for Friends Club, Creative Writing Club and the Future Problem Solvers team. Horowitz has also participated in track and concert band. In addition, she volunteers at Redington Fairview General Hospital in Skowhegan. Horowitz is the daughter of Eliot and Evelyn Horowitz, of Pittsfield.

Peixing “Juliana” Li won first place in the esteemed Manson Essay contest her junior year. She has been a member of the Math Team, Key Club, track team and the Fencing Club. Li has also been involved in vocal jazz, singing in the group Maiden Voyage. She has acted as a prefect in Alumni Hall and has served as the president of the Cultural Diversity Club. Li is the daughter of Shiyi Li and Xue Ling Lai, of Foshan, China.

Courtney Fowler earned second place in the Manson Essay competition her junior year. She has been on the softball team and on the honor roll in each of her years at MCI. Fowler has served as the secretary of the Key Club and been a member of the Student Council and the National Honor Society for two years. She is also a member of the Kindness Krew. Fowler is the daughter of David and Joyce Fowler, of Pittsfield.

Wenxi “Candy” Tan played field hockey and tennis for two years and basketball for one year. She has been a member the Key Club, Calligraphy Club, Math Team, Student Council and the Read, Write & Think Club. Tan has also been involved with piano and vocal jazz. She is the daughter of Yi Tan and Ping Lu, of Hengyang, China.

Kejia “Adia” Cai has participated in both the Tennis and Chess clubs and the tennis team. She has been a member of the cheerleading team, Math Team, Cultural Diversity Club and Key Club. Cai is the daughter of Wuxin Cai and Sadykova Guzel, of Beijing, China.

Katie Cronkite is a three-sport student-athlete, participating in soccer, basketball and track. She was also a Manson Essay finalist as well as a member of the Kindness Krew, Key Club and Student Leadership Committee. She acted as treasurer for her class for three years and Key Club treasurer her senior year. Cronkite is the daughter of Lee Cronkite and Martha McGowan, both of Pittsfield.
