SKOWHEGAN — Carter A. Stevens, of Smithfield, a Skowhegan Area High School senior, was selected to receive the 2013 Principal’s Award.

The award, sponsored by the Maine Principals’ Association, is given in recognition of a high school senior’s academic achievement, outstanding school citizenship and leadership.

Stevens and Principal Richard Wilson and other award winners and their principals will attend an honors luncheon at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, April 6, at the Spectacular Event Center in Bangor.

The luncheon recognizes outstanding students with the presentation of an individual plaque and the awarding of five $1,000 scholarships in the names of Horace O. McGowan and Richard W. Tyler. McGowan and Tyler were former Maine principals and executive directors of the association.

Stevens was also recognized a SAHS student of the month earlier this year. During a student assembly Principal Richard Wilson said “Carter Stevens is the complete package, adept in academics, creative in music and art, and active physically in athletics and personal fitness. He is completely open to all that life has to offer. Coupled with a strong work ethic, Carter truly has shown potential to be successful with anything in life with a broad list of skills in science, math, music and language arts.”

Stevens has earned a grade-point average of 97.

He is the son of Greg and Beverly Stevens of Smithfield.
