SKOWHEGAN — Santa Claus riding high atop a firetruck, a bus load of young theater students singing Christmas Carols, ponies and horses from Pendragon Farm and Miss Maine USA in a convertible promise to be among the highlights of the 2013 Holiday Stroll parade Friday.
Line-up for the parade is set for 6:30 p.m. at Skowhegan Savings Bank on Elm Street, with parade time at 7 p.m.
Dugan Murphy, executive director of Main Street Skowhegan, a downtown revitalization group that is coordinating this year’s Holiday Stroll events tonight and Saturday, said 28 groups have signed up to march in the parade. He said anyone wishing to join the parade can do so at 6:30 p.m. Eugene Rouse, Main Street board of directors president, is the contact person.
Murphy said there is a team of seven or eight volunteers helping with the parade this year.
Grand marshals for the parade are Samantha Dahlborg, Miss Maine USA, 2014; and Danielle Hurtubise, Miss Maine Teen USA, 2014.
The parade will wind its way from Elm Street onto Madison Avenue, then left along Water Street, ending past North Avenue at the parking lot of Notre Dame de Lourdes Catholic Church on Water Street.
A holiday bazaar, bake sale and book sale also will be held today from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The Holiday Stroll continues Saturday morning with breakfast with Santa Claus from 8 to 10 a.m. at Tewksbury Hall, behind the Federated Church on Island Avenue. Activities and a stroll of downtown businesses gets under way at 9:30 a.m., with holiday movie matinees at the Strand Cinema at 9:15 a.m. and 11:15 a.m.
