Avon man charged with burglary

MADRID TOWNSHIP — An Avon man was charged Wednesday with burglary after police say he broke into a garage and took an all-terrain vehicle to get his car unstuck.

Franklin County Sheriff Scott Nichols said Aaron Barker, 32, took the ATV from a Madrid Township garage after his car got stuck in the snow in February on East Madrid Road.

Nichols said Barker was looking for a shovel to dig himself out and found the ATV with the keys, which he used, damaged and returned to the garage. Police also allege Barker siphoned gas from a vehicle in the garage.

Cpl. Nate Reid and Lt. David St. Laurent arrested Barker for charges of burglary, criminal mischief, as well as two warrants charging him with unrelated offenses. Barker is being held at the Franklin County jail on a probation hold and will be arraigned Friday.
