FIRE DAMAGES PART OF SKOWHEGAN GARAGE

SKOWHEGAN — The Office of the State Fire Marshal is investigating a fire at 19 Maple St. that occurred around noon Saturday, according to Matthew Quinn, a Skowhegan firefighter who was at the scene.

The fire started on the second floor of an unoccupied garage that is attached to the house, and the damage was confined mostly to that area, he said. The building is an old farmhouse that has been converted to a multi-family apartment building. It belongs to David Folsom.

The fire might have started from a tenant’s discarded cigarette butt that reignited, Folsom said. He said the property is insured.
