AUGUSTA — A $2.6 million federal grant is coming Maine’s way aimed at reducing underage drinking and prescription drug and marijuana use among young people.
Maine’s Office of Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services says the state will get $891,000 a year for three years.
The goal is to reduce alcohol use among 12- to 20-year-olds, and cut down on prescription drug abuse and marijuana use among 12- to 25-year-olds.
The efforts will be headed by the Healthy Maine Partnership coalitions, which integrate substance abuse prevention programs into their public health initiatives. The coalitions work closely with law enforcement, schools, worksites, health care facilities and local governments.
