AUGUSTA — Three local Republican lawmakers met with Department of Transportation Commissioner David Bernhardt on Friday to talk about area roads and the need for improvements, according to the House Republican Office.

Reps. Matt Pouliot and Corey Wilson and Assistant Senate Minority Leader Roger Katz, all Republicans from Augusta, met with Bernhardt.

“I hear more about the need to fix Mount Vernon Avenue than any other local issue from people in Augusta,” Pouliot said in a statement.

The GOP lawmakers said repairs are scheduled for Mount Vernon Avenue in 2014, along with other projects that include repairs to Western Avenue in 2013 and work on Stone Street in 2015.

Also, Wilson said he is sponsoring a bill to move rotary crosswalks 150 feet away from rotaries.

A former truck driver, he said he thinks the existing crosswalks put pedestrians at risk.
