BELGRADE — Nominating petitions are available at the Town Office for local offices up for election.
Those offices include a three-year post as a selectperson, a three-year post as a school board member representing the town on the Regional School Unit 18 board and a one-year post as road commissioner.
Petitions need a minimum of 25 and a maximum of 100 signatures of registered voters in town.
The deadline for returning petitions is 4:30 p.m. Jan. 31. Elections take place 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. March 14 at the Center for All Seasons at the same time voters weigh in on any local referendum issues. The business portion of the annual Town Meeting starts at 1 p.m. March 15, also at the Center for All Seasons.
Selectperson Melanie Jewell’s post is up for re-election. She has served for nine years and has not taken out papers to run again. Michael Barrett, chairman of the Belgrade Public Library board of trustees, has filed his papers for that post, according to Town Clerk Cheryl Cook.
Cathy Mckelway, who has served one term as a school board member, has indicated she is not running again. No one has returned papers for that post.
Road Commissioner Maurice Childs has taken out papers to run again for a one-year term, but had yet to return them as of Friday, Cook said.
