Bill clarifies Maine wine-tasting law

AUGUSTA — A bill to address oversights in Maine's wine-tasting law that was passed last year is now working its way through the Legislature.

Rep. Stacey Fitts says his bill will help wine shops and specialty stores that have traditionally offered taste-testing events to draw customers and boost sales. The Pittsfield Republican's bill received final House passage last week and this week moves to the Senate for final passage.

Fitts says the law passed last year backfired and essentially shut down taste-testings.

The new bill eases some regulations and doubles the number of events a licensee may conduct to 24 per year.
