PORTLAND — A screening panel has been formed to assess candidates to fill an upcoming vacancy on Maine's federal court.
U.S. Reps. Mike Michaud and Chellie Pingree and Sen. Angus King said Tuesday a vacancy will occur when Judge George Singal assumes senior status on July 31.
The panel will be chaired by Portland attorney Peter DeTroy. The other 11 members include attorneys, an assistant attorney general, a retired judge, a law professor and the litigation director for Maine Equal Justice Partners.
The deadline for candidates to submit application materials is Feb. 22.
