As part of the installation ceremony for Laurie Gagnon Lachance, the latest president of Thomas College, a new International Hall of Flags was dedicated on Saturday morning in the college’s Ayotte Auditorium lobby.
It features flags from 18 different countries that are, or have been, represented in the student body. Provost Thomas Edwards said that the new display demonstrates the increasingly diverse nature of communities everywhere.
“Our communities are now all global communities — where and how we work, learn and socialize are all diverse communities,” he said.
Edwards said the flags acknowledge “the spirit and the commitment to that diverse spectrum of voices and ideas that make us a better place to live and learn.”
Countries represented in the hall include Australia, Bermuda, Brazil, Canada, China, England, France, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Mongolia, Nepal, New Zealand, Russia, Sweden, Thailand, Turkmenistan and Vietnam.
