FARMINGTON — A Chesterville woman was arrested Saturday night following a police search for her 4-year-old son.

Brittany Noyes, 23, reported the child, an autistic boy whose name was not released, missing at 6:34 p.m. Saturday, according to Sgt. Mike Adcock of the Farmington Police Department. She was later charged with assaulting an officer and possession of scheduled drugs, he said.

Adcock said the child had been missing for about 30 to 40 minutes when Noyes called police. Police then contacted the Maine Warden Service, which commonly responds to missing persons cases.

Authorities originally thought they were looking for a child who had wandered away from home. After contacting the boy's father, Jason Fowler, also of Chesterville, they learned the child was at his home and located the boy there, Adcock said.

Adcock said Noyes was uncooperative when questioned by game wardens. She tried to grab a phone from a Farmington police officer to talk to her son and flailed her arms, striking an officer, Adcock said.

Noyes was taken to the Franklin County Jail. There, officers found seven alprazolam pills on her person. Alprazolam is an antianxiety drug, sometimes sold under the trademark Xanax.

The boy was released to his grandmother, whose name was unavailable, Adcock said.
