China man pleads guilty to drug charges

AUGUSTA — A China man pleaded guilty to 10 charges of unlawful possession of scheduled drugs  Thursday and was sentenced to 90 days in jail.

Casey Edward Bellows, 33, entered the pleas in Kennebec County Superior Court. Only one of the drug possession charges was a felony, and he was placed on a deferred disposition for that charge, meaning he will be able to withdraw that guilty plea to the felony if he successfully completes a number of requirements.

If so, the agreement approved by a judge indicates the charge would be reduced to a misdemeanor and Bellows would be sentenced to 364 days in jail, with all but 90 days suspended, and one year of probation.

In exchange for the pleas, six other drug possession charges were dismissed as was a charge of negotiating a worthless instrument.

Bellows already served the 90 days in the Kennebec County jail and completed a Criminogenic Addiction Recovery Academy program during that time. He was fined $3,900.

Bellows also was convicted of violating condition of release and agreed to a criminal forfeiture of $2,164.
The offenses occurred between March 13 and May 3 in Winslow.

At a separate hearing Thursday in the same court, Joseph R. Plourde, 34, of Monmouth pleaded guilty to a charge of criminal threatening which occurred Dec. 13 in Augusta. He was fined $250.
