SKOWHEGAN — A Skowhegan couple was in jail Friday after a drug raid at their home that netted police hundreds of oxycodone pills, a loaded handgun and $1,300 in cash.

Peter Breingan Jr., 36, and Maria Collins, 24, both of Rosie Court, were arrested after the execution of a search warrant about 1 p.m. Thursday.

Detective Lt. Carl Gottardi, of the Somerset County Sheriff’s Department, said the department’s warrant team conducted the search. Investigators found 322 30-mg oxycodone pills, with a street value of about $10,000, Gottardi said in a news release.

Police also seized a loaded 9 mm pistol, cash and drug-related paraphernalia.

Breingan and Collins both are charged with aggravated trafficking in narcotics, a class A felony punishable by up to 30 years in prison. The trafficking charge is aggravated because the firearm was close to the drugs.

They also are charged with illegal possession of narcotics, a class C felony, punishable by up to five years in prison.

The pair was being held at the Somerset County Jail in lieu of a $100,000 property bond or $50,000 cash and was scheduled to make an initial appearance on the charges Friday in Skowhegan District Court.

The District Attorney’s Office will review the case, and additional charges may be forthcoming, according to Gottardi.

It was unclear late Friday whether Breingan and Collins have lawyers.
