Members of the military salute U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Eric Shaw’s coffin, escorted from a jet by the Maine Army National Guard’s Honor Guard at the Augusta State Airport on Tuesday. Shaw, 31, who grew up in Exeter, lived in Augusta and most recently lived in Clarksville, Tenn. He was killed in action June 27 in Afghanistan while serving with the 327th Infantry, First Brigade Combat Team based at Fort Campbell, Ky. Public visiting hours will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Plummer Funeral Home in Augusta. A private funeral service for immediate family and friends will be held the following day. Burial will be at Maine Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, Augusta. Gov. John Baldacci has ordered that the United States and Maine flags be flown at half-staff Thursday.
