WATERVILLE — The Falmouth boys and girls tennis teams repeated as Class B tennis state champions Saturday at Colby College, each capping another undefeated season with a 5-0 shutout victory.

The Falmouth boys (16-0) defeated Ellsworth (15-1) for the title for a second year in a row. Justin Brogan, Brendan McCarthy and Aiden McGrory won in straight sets in singles.

Juniors Sam Holland and Tom Wilberg won in three sets at first doubles and seniors Hutch Hurwitz and Eric Sanderson didn’t drop a game at second doubles.

The Falmouth girls (16-0) won their fifth consecutive state title, winning all but nine games against previously-unbeaten Waterville (15-1).

“We love playing them,” said Waterville coach Jill Cristan. “It’s totally different tennis from our regular season. They’re hard-hitting and it’s great tennis.”

Falmouth seniors Annie Criscione, Analise Kump, Steffi Rothweiler and Marlena Lantos depart with a 64-0 team record for their high school careers. Criscione and Kump won at singles, as did freshman Olivia Leavitt.

Rothweiler and junior Abby Payson won at first doubles and Lantos teamed with sophomore Katie Ryan at second doubles.

The victory was the 77th in a row for Falmouth, dating back to a 3-2 loss to Waynflete in May 2008.
