An outdoor Farmington ice rink will remain open after town officials unanimously voted Tuesday night to continue the operation.
Selectmen spent the past week weighing the popularity of the Hippach Field ice rink and the cost of running it, at the suggestion of Parks and Recreation Department Director Steve Shible.
Selectmen said residents asked them to keep the rink open.
The rink, located between Main Street and Prescott Street, is maintained by the town for around $4,400 annually. The total proposed Parks and Recreation budget is $153,000, down 7.3 percent from 2013.
Selectwoman Jessica Berry told Shible that she appreciated him looking for ways to save the town money, including possible cuts to his own department.
