SOUTH PORTLAND — Real estate agents say sales of existing single-family homes in Maine fell 5 percent in February from a year ago because of severe weather, but the sales prices for those homes went up.

The Maine Association of Realtors says real estate agents sold 593 homes last month, down from 624 a year ago. The median sales price was $151,500, up 1 percent from February 2011.

For the three-month period from December through February, the association says home sales rose 9 percent, with the median price increasing by 5 percent.

Cumberland County had the highest-priced homes, at $214,000. On the low end, Piscataquis County homes had a median sales price of $58,000.
