Four taken to hospital after Main Street Waterville accident Friday

WATERVILLE — Four people were taken to the hospital after a car accident on upper Main Street Friday afternoon.

Two adults complained of back and neck pain and two children, one of whom complained of a bump on the head, were transported to nearby MaineGeneral Medical Center's Thayer Campus, said Sgt. Alden Weiglet of the Waterville Police.

Weiglet said he did not have the names of the people in the car, a 2001 Toyota Corolla, which was hit in the rear by a green Ford F-150 pickup truck at around 4:35 p.m. Friday.

The driver of the truck, Albert DePietro, 28, of Richmond, said the accident was not his fault. He said the driver ahead of him was on a cellphone and stopped abruptly, causing him to crash into them.

The damage to his truck was minimal and he should be able to drive it, he said.

Traffic was blocked for about 45 minutes.

Officer Tristan Russell of the Waterville police is investigating the accident to determine its cause, Weiglet said.
