GARDINER — A Wiscasset man has been charged in connection with a weekend shooting of a woman on Costello Road.
Sean R. Kingston
Sean R. Kingston, 38, was arrested Monday morning and charged with possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, Police Chief James Toman said in a release. Additional charges are possible at the conclusion of the ongoing investigation, Toman said.
Kingston was being held at the Kennebec County jail in Augusta on $1,000 cash bail.
The victim, a 34-year-old Costello Road resident, is expected to recover after being shot in the torso Saturday night, Toman said. Her identity was not released.
The woman was shot with a handgun, according to police.
Kingston reportedly splits his time between the woman’s 30 Costello Road house and Wiscasset.
Police were called to the home shortly after 6 p.m. Saturday. Officers were led to the bedroom, where they found the wounded woman conscious and able to respond to questions, Toman said.
The woman was flown by LifeFlight to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, where she continues to receive treatment.
Kingston, who reportedly witnessed the shooting, left the scene once the officers arrived, Toman said.
“Upon learning the witness had fled, several unsuccessful attempts were made to locate him,” Toman said.
Police were subsequently able to contact him. Kingston voluntarily turned himself in Monday morning. Gardiner Police Detective Michael Durham interviewed Kingston and then arrested him on the gun charge.
A police log item in the Lincoln County News says Kingston was arrested on Jan. 27, 2010, on charges of aggravated assault, criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon and operating after habitual offender revocation on Gardiner Road in Wiscasset. It’s unclear how those charges were resolved.
