Hospital debt topic of LePage's radio address

AUGUSTA — Gov. Paul LePage says it wasn't a temper tantrum, bluster or anger that prompted him to threaten to veto any bill that comes to his desk before his plan to pay a $484 million hospital debt is passed.

In his weekly radio address, the governor says he made the promise out of frustration. LePage says he presented the bill in January. He says it would put nearly $700 million into Maine's economy creating health care and construction jobs.

In the Democratic response, Assistant House Majority Leader Jeff McCabe of Skowhegan calls on LePage to release nearly $300 million in voter-approved bonds, which McCabe would jump start the state's economy.

McCabe says LePage is holding these bonds hostage until his hospital proposal gets passed.
