Incumbent Paul Gilbert, D-Jay, defeated Clinton W. Brooks, R-Jay, in the race for House District 87 seat Tuesday by a 2,826 to 1,820 vote.
Gilbert won four of the district’s five towns. In Chesterville he won 358-276, in Jay 1,626 to 908, in Mercer 226-126 and in Starks 221-85.
Brooks won in New Sharon 425-395.
Gilbert, 68, is a retired job service manager at the state Department of Labor and has served two terms in the House. He said he has been a supporter of legislation to help the elderly and disabled and has served on two labor committees.
