Democratic state Sen. Chris Johnson appears to have narrowly held back Republican challenger Les Fossel in the racefor state Senate District 20, according to unofficial results.
With all 21 precincts reporting Wednesday, both candidates were at 50 percent apiece, but Johnson had garnered 10,824 votes to Fossel’s 10,698 — a 126-vote margin.
Johnson, 55, a Somerville information technology director, won a special election for his seat in February in a district usually dominated by Republicans.
Fossel, 66, a two-term legislator and restoration contractor from Alna, is chairman of the Legislature’s informal Moderate Caucus.
The district includes all of Lincoln County and some outlying towns.
