BOSTON — The Kennedy family is returning to Congress.

Democrat Joseph Kennedy III is scheduled to be sworn in Thursday, replacing the retiring Rep. Barney Frank.

Kennedy will be the first member of the famous political clan in Congress since the death of his late uncle U.S. Sen. Edward Kennedy in 2009 and the retirement of his Sen. Kennedy’s son, Rhode Island Rep. Patrick Kennedy in 2011.

Kennedy will take the oath of office on the House floor along with the rest of the Congress.

The state’s eight other representatives — all Democratic incumbents — will also be sworn in as will Massachusetts’ two Democratic senators, John Kerry and newly elected Elizabeth Warren.

Kerry’s stay should be brief as the Senate is expected to confirm his nomination as secretary of state.
