LITCHFIELD — Democrat Rachel Sukeforth is heading to the Secretary of State’s office in Augusta to officially request a recount of votes in House District 80.
Unofficial tallies show her losing by eight votes to Republican Melvin Newendyke, who sought a second term in the Legislature.
The district covers Litchfield, Monmouth and Wales. The two candidates both live in Litchfield.
Recounts are not automatic and must be sought within five days.
