A Madrid Township man convicted recently of sexual abuse was summoned on a new felony charge after police say he spoke to the victim while being taken away from the courtroom.

John Fahnley, 57, was found guilty last week by a Franklin County Superior Court jury of sexually abusing a teenage boy in Fahnley’s Madrid Township home.

As Fahnley was being escorted out of the courtroom to jail by Detective Lt. David St. Laurent and a court marshal, Fahnley told the victim and family members sitting in the court room “I hope you are happy” as he walked by, according to a news release from Franklin County Sheriff Scott Nichols.

This act violated his conditions of release that no contact with the victim or family members could be made, Nichols said. Fahnley has been summoned to appear on the class C crime April 8 at Farmington Superior Court.

His sentencing for last week’s conviction has not been scheduled.

Fahnley was arrested in December 2012 after the teenager from Massachusetts told police that Fahnley had abused him sexually in 2008 and 2009. Fahnley was previously a 10-year registrant on the sex offender registry for a 2003 conviction in Massachusetts for the rape and abuse of a minor.
