A Madrid Township man was sentenced to three years in prison Tuesday for sexually abusing a teenage boy.

John Fahnley, 59, was sentenced by Justice Nancy Mills to serve three years of a five year sentence and undergo two years of probation, according to court documents.

A Franklin County Superior Court jury found Fahnley guilty of the class C charge Feb. 21 for sexually abusing a Massachusettes 14-year-old in his Madrid Township home.

Fahnley was previously convicted of the rape and abuse of a minor in Massachusettes and was registered as a sex offender until last year for the conviction. Following the new conviction, Fahnley will have to register again as a sex offender and will be a liftime registrant.

A charge is still pending against Fahnley for allegedly violating a condition of release shortly after he was convicted on the abuse charge.

Police said as Fahnley was being escorted out of the courtroom to jail, he told the victim and family members sitting in the court room “I hope you are happy” as he walked by. He has been summoned to appear on the class C crime April 8 at Farmington Superior Court.
