AUGUSTA — Following a year-long deployment to Kuwait, Maine Army National Guard troops are being welcomed back to their home state.
Members of the 126th Aviation are expected to arrive Friday afternoon and will be welcomed by friends and family at a public ceremony. The soldiers are expected to arrive by bus at the Army Aviation Support Facility in Bangor.
During their deployment, the troops flew more than 1,200 sorties and completed 43 medical evacuation missions. Unit members have been recommended for five Meritorious Service Medals, nearly 60 Air Medals, 10 Army Commendation Medals and five Army Achievement Medals.
