Drug arrest in Maine leads to Texas fugitive's capture

LEWISTON — A man in Lewiston arrested for aggravated drug trafficking and several other charges Tuesday is also a fugutive who escaped from a Texas prison farm, according to police.

Mark Hancock, 47, was ordered jailed on $250,000 bail Friday, according the Sun Journal.

Hancock originally gave police a fake name after the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency raided his home Tuesday and found large amounts of pre-packaged marijuana, prescription drugs and several firearms.

Hancock originally told DEA agents his name was David Liberti. He even had a social security number that matched Liberti's name.

But the federal fingerprint system confirmed his identity was Mark Hancock, said MDEA Supervisor Matt Cashman. Hancock has an extensive criminal record in Massachusetts and Texas.

Hancock was charged with aggravated drug trafficking, possession of oxycodone and possession of a firearm by a felon. He remained in jail Friday night, according to the Sun Journal.
