MEXICO – Police took a man into custody Tuesday night after a standoff that lasted more than two hours on Brown Street.
The Maine State Police Tactical Team was sent to assist Mexico police at the scene of the standoff that started around 7:30 p.m., according to Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland.
McCausland said shortly after 10:20 p.m. that police had just taken a “young man” into custody.
Police said over the radio several times that there was no hostage involved, but that could not be immediately confirmed.
Mexico, a town of 2,681 according to the 2010 U.S. Census, is located northeast across the Androscoggin River from Rumford in Oxford County.
