Bad checks to SAD 49 spur fraud report

FAIRFIELD — Two bad checks to the business office of School Administrative District 49’s business office resulted in the district reporting fraud to the Fairfield Police Department at 3:01 p.m. Tuesday, according to district officials.

“Two people had each passed a bad check that bounced and we hadn’t been able to collect, so we passed them on to the police for collection,” Sue Lambert, district business director, said.

Lambert estimated that the district makes such complaints to police about once a year.

When the reported fraud appeared in the Morning Sentinel police log Wednesday, Lambert said, she fielded calls from people who were concerned that district employees were engaged in fraud, which she said is not the case.

The Fairfield-based district also includes Albion, Benton and Clinton.
