Bad checks to SAD 49 spur fraud report

FAIRFIELD — Two bad checks to the business office of School Administrative District 49’s business office resulted in the district reporting fraud to the Fairfield Police Department at 3:01 p.m. Tuesday, according to district officials.

“Two people had each passed a bad check that bounced and we hadn’t been able to collect, so we passed them on to the police for collection,” Sue Lambert, district business director, said.

Lambert estimated that the district makes such complaints to police about once a year.

When the reported fraud appeared in the Morning Sentinel police log Wednesday, Lambert said, she fielded calls from people who were concerned that district employees were engaged in fraud, which she said is not the case.

The Fairfield-based district also includes Albion, Benton and Clinton.

IN BENTON, Wednesday at 5:18 p.m., a theft was reported on Hanscom Road.
6:06 p.m., suspicious activity was reported on Lawrence Drive.

IN CHINA, Wednesday at 1:01 p.m., harassment was reported on Route 3.

IN FAIRFIELD, Wednesday, at 8:42 a.m., trespass was reported on School Street.
10:57 a.m., harassment complaint was reported on Police Plaza.
3:51 p.m., reported fraud was investigated on Covell Road.
Thursday, at 3 a.m., loud noise was reported on Kelley Street.
5:13 a.m., intoxicated subject was reported on Norridgewock Road.

IN FARMINGTON, Wednesday at 5:28 p.m., fire was reported on Stanwood Park Circle.
8:56 p.m., motor vehicle accident with injuries was reported on Wilton Road.

IN NEW SHARON, Wednesday at 5:58 p.m., burglary was reported on Farmington Falls Road.

IN OAKLAND, Wednesday, at 4:24 p.m., reported criminal trespass resulted in paperwork served on Church Street.

IN VASSALBORO, Wednesday at 10:39 a.m., a theft was investigated on Main Street.
Thursday, 12:17 a.m., suspicious activity was investigated on Riverside Drive.

IN WATERVILLE, Wednesday at 4:08 p.m., harassment was reported on Merryfield Avenue.
4:50 p.m., harassment was reported on Water Street.
5:28 p.m., criminal mischief was reported at Railroad Square.
5:35 p.m., an assault was reported at Thayer Campus, MaineGeneral Medical Center, on North Street.
Thursday at 12:36 a.m., a burglary was reported at Ken-A-Set on College Avenue.
8:21 a.m., a burglary was reported at Uptown Styles on Main Street.

IN WILTON, Wednesday at 4:17 p.m., fire was reported on Riley Road.
4:48 p.m., fire was reported on U.S. Route 2.

IN WINSLOW, Wednesday at 11:11 a.m., a theft was investigated on South Reynolds Road.

Arrests

IN FRANKLIN COUNTY, Thursday at 1:10 a.m., David Clark, 26, of Farmington, was arrested on the charge of operating under the influence.
1:20 a.m., Troy Mitchell, 32, of Bangor, was arrested on the charge of assault.

IN WATERVILLE, Wednesday at 10 a.m., Ashley Loisel, 19, of 16 Fortier St., Winslow, arrested on a warrant, on Common Street.
Thursday at 12:56 a.m., Jason Hight, 26, listed as transient, was arrested on charges of burglary and criminal mischief, at Ken-A-Set on College Avenue.

IN WINSLOW, Wednesday at 10:35 p.m., Carly Marie Cleaves, 20, of 41 Tower Road, Liberty, was arrested on a warrant on Halifax Street.
