Northern New England digs out from storm

PORTLAND — Northern New England is digging out from a second winter storm in three days that blanketed Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont in snow.

The National Weather Service said all three states received significant snowfall from a storm that rolled in Saturday and continued through the overnight hours. Snow was still falling Sunday in northern and eastern Maine.

Accumulations are highest in eastern Maine, where forecasters were calling for 8 to 14 inches with up to 18 inches in some localized areas.

The largest utilities in the three states were reporting few power outages on Sunday from the storm.

Five people suffered non-life-threatening injuries in a 20-vehicle crash during heavy snowfall Saturday on Interstate 93 in New Hampton.
