BOSTON — It could soon cost substantially more to park at Boston’s Logan International Airport.

The Massachusetts Port Authority said Thursday it would seek a $2 or $3 hike in hourly parking rates, bringing the maximum daily rate to as high as $30 in the airport’s central garages and up to $21 in the economy lot.

The Massport board will vote on the proposed increase next month. If approved, officials say the new fees would take effect July 1 and cover expenses for operating, maintaining and upgrading airport parking facilities.

Massport chief executive Thomas Glynn said the agency continues to encourage travelers to use alternative means of transportation. He cited a $30 million Logan Express parking garage being built in Framingham and shuttle bus service that will soon begin between Back Bay and the airport.
