NEWPORT — Five New England Patriots fans from Canada got a little extra excitement while driving home after the team's victory on Sunday.
Maine State Police say the car carrying the five men back to Nova Scotia caught fire on Interstate 95 in Newport at about 1:30 p.m. Monday, causing a temporary shutdown of the northbound lanes of the highway.
State Trooper Tucker Bonnevie tells the Bangor Daily News that the car was fully engulfed in flames by the time emergency crews arrived.
None of the occupants was injured.
Bonnevie says one of the men got a ride to Bangor for a rental car to help the men finish their journey.
The Patriots beat the Buffalo Bills 37-31.
