NORRIDGEWOCK — The pilot of a plane that crashed after it landed at a Norridgewock airport Tuesday was uninjured, but there was some damage to the aircraft.

When David Atwood, 60, of Old Town, went to land his Aeronca Champ airplane at the Central Maine Regional Airport about 11 a.m., he lost control, said Lt. Carl Gottardi of the Somerset County Sheriff’s Department.

The plane crashed into several trees at the edge of the airport about 100 yards away from the runway, Gottardi said.

Atwood had no passengers and the wings and tail of the plane were damaged.

The Federal Aviation Authority is conducting an investigation.
