“It’s just lucky nobody got hurt,” said owner Jack Goggin.

The crash occurred around 1:30 p.m., as 71-year-old Verna Damon, 71, of Pittston, was pulling her 2010 Chevy Impala into a parking spot near in front of the store. Damon’s car sideswiped a parked cars and continued forward until it hit a set of double-hung metal fire doors that lead from the outside into a storage area, said State Police Trooper Greg Stevens.

Both carscould be driven away, but sustained significant damage, Stevens said. The doors were badly bent and partially ripped from the framing.

It is unclear what caused the accident.

Witnesses told Stevens that the car’s tires continued to spin as the car accelerated after hitting the doors.

“All the time the witnesses said they were squealing,” Stevens said.

There are no charges associated with crash.

Goggin said he planned to secure the doors temporarily until he could hire someone to come and make a permanent fix next week.

Goggin said Damon is a long-time customer.

“It’s just a freak accident,” he said.
