CHINA — Police continue to investigate a report of a stabbing that occurred early Wednesday on Lakeview Drive.
Brandon Knox, 23, told Kennebec County Sheriff Deputy Scott Cyrway that he had been stabbed by unknown assailants while out for a walk around 5:30 a.m., Wednesday, Sheriff Randall Liberty said in a release.
Cyrway met with Knox at MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta where he received twenty-four staples to close a 6-inch incision in his upper chest, Liberty said.
Knox told police that he and his girlfriend were walking on Lakeview Drive near the China Middle School when a black, two door sedan stopped nearby.
Two white men, both in their 20s, stopped and demanded money, according to Liberty. One of the men was slender and the other heavy set.
“Knox reported that he refused and a struggled ensued,” Liberty said. “Knox reported that one of the attackers cut him with a box cutter resulting in several facial scratches and a six-inch incision on his upper chest.”
Knox told police his attackers were wearing white hats and baggy blue jeans.
“The victim reported not knowing the identity of the suspects and was unable to get a registration plate number,” Liberty said.
Liberty said the investigation is ongoing.
“This is a very unusual incident,” Liberty said. “It is very rare that suspects unknown to the victim would use this level of violence during a random theft attempt. The initial investigation leads me to believe this is an isolated incident.”
The Sheriff’s Department asks anyone with information on the incident call 623-3591.
