A Massachusetts man was arrested early Thursday after U.S. Border Patrol agents found him asleep on the floor inside Bishop’s Store in Jackman.

Randy Davis, 46, of Leicester, Mass., allegedly smashed his way through the plate glass door and went inside just after 2 a.m., said Dale Lancaster, chief deputy with the Somerset County Sheriff’s Department.

Lancaster said Davis had been drinking alcohol before breaking into the store.

The county communications center in Skowhegan received a report of a burglary in progress on Main Street in Jackman Thursday around 2:10 a.m. The report was called in by Raymond Levesque, who owns the store and was notified by an alarm company that there was an intruder there. Cpl. Ritchie Putnam, of the sheriff’s department, responded to the complaint, as did Border Patrol agents who got there first.

Border Patrol agents found him asleep in an aisle of the store, Lancaster said. Nothing had been stolen.

Davis was arrested on charges of criminal trespass and criminal mischief, both misdemeanors. He was taken to the Somerset County Jail in East Madison, where he was released on bail. Davis is scheduled to appear in Skowhegan District Court May 7.
