WATERVILLE — A Vassalboro man was arrested early Thursday at Elm Plaza after he allegedly bit his girlfriend’s ear until it bled, according to police.

Benjamin Lajoie, 23, of 1321 Cross Hill Road, Vassalboro, was charged outside Champions nightclub with domestic violence assault, a class D misdemeanor, and criminal trespass, a class E misdemeanor, Deputy Police Chief Charles Rumsey said.

He said officers were called to Champions at 12:45 a.m. Thursday about a man who was refusing to leave the nightclub. The criminal trespass charge was as a result of his refusal to leave, Rumsey said.

“Our officers arrived and found staff holding a male on the ground and they said he became aggressive with them prior to our arrival,” Rumsey said, adding that Lajoie appeared to be intoxicated.

Witnesses reported he had been inside the nightclub before police got there, Rumsey said.

“He had been arguing with his girlfriend and, during the argument, bit her on the ear hard enough to cause it to bleed,” Rumsey said.

The woman’s injury was not serious enough to require medical attention, he said. Police charged Lajoie after talking with his girlfriend and witnesses.

Lajoie was taken to the police station and later released on bail. Lajoie is scheduled to appear May 6 in Waterville District Court, according to Rumsey.
