WATERVILLE — The state's first conference on problem gambling will be held here March 7.
The Maine Office of Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services said the conference, at 74 Drummond Ave. from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., will focus on raising awareness about problem gambling and promoting responsible gaming.
Conference co-sponsors include the SAMHS office, the Maine Gambling Control Board, the Bureau of Alcoholic Beverages and Lottery Operations, Hollywood Casino and Oxford Casino. It will coincide with National Problem Gambling Awareness Week, which is March 3 to 9.
The keynote speaker will be Lesa Densmore, a Maine native who struggled with and overcame an addiction to gambling. Other sessions will focus on responses to gambling problems in Maine.
