WATERVILLE — A Rome man was arrested after allegedly assaulting and robbing a man at his home on North Street late Wednesday night.

Richard B. Poirier, 24, of Sunflower Estates in Rome, was arrested after being questioned by police on Main Street, between Boutelle and Hillside avenues, according to police.

Sgt. Lincoln Ryder of the Waterville Police Department said police were called to Main Street for a report of suspicious activity when they saw Poirier.

While questioning Poirier, police received a call about a recent robbery and assault on North Street, Ryder said. Poirier matched the description of the man involved with the robbery and also had the victim’s wallet on him.

The male victim was taken to the Thayer Center for Health and Poirier was arrested and charged with robbery, burglary and aggravated assault. Poirier was taken to Kennebec County jail in Augusta and held on $3,750 cash bail, Ryder said. He has a court date in Kennebec County Superior Court on March 11, Ryder said.

Ryder said the investigation is ongoing and more charges could be filed.
